VIVEKANANDA KENDRA VIDYALAYA KHARSANG
KHARSANG School, started in 1977 and it is one of the first seven VKVs started in Arunachal Pradesh in that year. It is a co-education school. School is having Boys and Girls from class I to X. This school is up to Secondary Level, and is of residential nature with hostel facilities for boys only.
KHARSANG is a Sub Division headquarter of Changlang District. The name “CHANGLANG” is derived from the local word ‘CHANGLANGKAN’ meaning a hill – top where people discovered the poisonous herb that is used for poisoning fish in the river. The CHANGLANG district is surrounded by Lohit district in the North, Myanmar (Burma) in South, China in East, and Assam in West. Namdapha, a Tiger Reserve and National Park is located at a few kilometers from Miao, amidst green lush vegetation, impenetrable pristine and virgin forest lies in the international border between India and Myanmar . The Mineral such as Oil and Coal are found in some areas.
The main occupation of the indigenous people is agriculture and allied activities. They also rear domestic animals like Cattle, Pig, Goats and Poultry birds. The inhabitants are mainly “TANGSA” tribe and district is insurgency affected. The TANGSAS have democratic form of social life. They do not have kingship system. All village disputes are settled by the Panchayat i.e. Gaon Buras.
As per the 2011 Census the population of KHARSANG is 9508. Its altitude is 200 meters above sea level and temperature varies from 40°C to 12°C.
This school mostly serves the local “TANGSA” community of CHANGLANG district and “WANGCHU” and “NOCTE” community of TIRAP district.
The persona of Swami Vivekananda and Mananeeya Eknathji, the founder of Vivekananda Kendra, are at the heart of the Institution. Vivekananda Kendra’s core values of selfless service, patriotism, character-building, man-making and nation-building permeate the entire educational experience.
