The VKVs have completed forty years in the state of Arunachal Pradesh. The preceding months saw the fervor of the celebration of the completion of forty years.  The celebration assumed entirely new significance due to the fact that the grand event was organized by the galaxy of alumni of the VKVs.  The celebration which was kick started on 11th September with a marathon was culminated with a three day mega program at Itanagar. The final program at IG Park was graced by the honorable President of India, Sri Ram Nath Kovind; Brigadier (Dr.) B.D. Mishra, Governor, Arunachal Pradesh; Sri Kiren Rijjiju, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Sri Pema Khandu, Chief Minister, Arunachal Pradesh, Mananeeya Balakrishnanji, All India Vice-President, Vivekananda Kendra  and host of other dignitaries.  All the dignitaries acknowledged and endorsed the contribution of VKVs in ‘Man making-Nation Building’ endeavor and ushering in quality education to this remote hilly state of India. The event proved to be an opportune moment for the former VKVians to revisit their glorious days at VKVs, relishing the nostalgic moments with the former teachers who thronged from various parts of the country, get thrilled by the band display and mega dance program by thousand plus students from VKVs. While commemoration the glorious legacy of VKVs, the celebration also has scripted a new chapter instilling new vigor to traverse the charted path.

Apart from the grand program of 40 years celebration, the preceding months were studded with many activities and celebrations.

Universal Brotherhood Day Celebration

The Universal Brotherhood Day was celebrated in all the VKVs with enthusiasm. This year the celebration assumed an additional dimension with the inauguration of the VKVs 40 years of Service in Arunachal Pradesh. For the inauguration of the same a grand Marathon race with the theme “Run for Brotherhood’ was organized. In addition to the central marathon race at Itanagar, many VKVs and Arunjyoti also organized Marathon race in the morning on the day. Marathon races were organized by VKV Jairampur, Kharsang, Dollungmukh.

Speech on the Importance of the Day, Cultural program by the students , Presentation of the epoch making speech of Swami Vivekananda at Chicago were some of the highlights of the celebration at the schools. Dignitaries, a large number of parents and well-wishers witnessed the events.

Sadhana Divas & Library Week Celebration

All the VKVs celebrated Sadhana Divas, the birth day of Mananeeya Eknathji, the founder of Vivekananda Kendra with usual enthusiasm on 19th November. Apart from other programs, the library week was inaugurated on that day. The library week envisages to instill reading habit in students and introduces the students to the new books with intensified efforts. Book Review, visiting nearby Libraries, guest lectures etc. are some activities conducted during the week.

Celebration of Hindi Divas

 VKV Vivek Vihar celebrated Hindi Divas with pomp and show. Sri Tania Hakom, Headmaster, Rajaokio Middle school, Police Colony inaugurated the program by offering flowers at the feet of Bharat Mata. 10 selected students read their poems. Other VKVs also organized activities to celebrate the occasion.

Sadgamaya Shibir

The Sadgamaya shibir, an outreach program for the students of the neighboring schools was conducted with usual gusto. Many neighboring schools responded to this popular shibir and sent large number of students to attend the same. The details of participation has been given below:

Prerana Shibir

This shibir is conducted for the day scholar students of Class VII to provide them a glimpse of an ideal daily routine and motivation. VKV Raga conducted the shibir from 27th to 29th September in which 24 students were present. In addition to the sessions taken by the teachers, there were also sessions by Dr Hage Hano, MO, PHC Raga. Sri Bini Tegi, Principal, Green Hill School and Er Milli Aghe were the Chief Guest for the Inauguration and the Concluding function of the shibir.

Speech and Drama on Sister Nivedita

On the occasion of 150th Birth Anniversary of sister Nivedita, all the schools have conducted activities to commemorate the great lady who showed immense love to India and dedicated her life for the same. VKV Nivedita Vihar students presented speech and drama on Sister Nivedita in some of the neighboring schools as a part of the Sister Nivedita 150th Birth Anniversary celebration. After the presentation, an essay writing competition was also conducted on 28th October

A total of 53 young scientists from 19 districts of the state displayed their projects and exhibitions with presentations. The top 10 have been selected for the National Science Congress, scheduled to be held at Ahmadabad from November 27 to 31.

Excellent Performance at State Merit Scholarship

It is a great pleasure that Kr. Bishal Mandal, VKV Ziro topped in the state Merit scholarship exam for the year 2017. Apart from this, the students of VKVs performed superbly in the State Merit Scholarship exam conducted for Class IX students. 17 students out of 36 selected in the state are from VKVs. Governors Quiz

Kr. Pankaj Tiwari (CL-X) and Kr. Ngawang Gyaltsen (CL-IX) from VKV Banderdewa represented Papum Pare District in the state level Governor’s Quiz Competition and stood first in the state Level competition conducted on 28th October. The team of VKV Itanagar bagged the third position.  VKV Roing, Kuporijo and Jairampur also participated in the state level after winning the district level competition.

State Level Science Exhibition

The students of VKVs exhibited outstanding performance in the state Level Science Exhibition organized by Directorate of Secondary Education held on 21 November at Itanagar.. VKV Kuporijo student Kr Tobom Nilling stood in the second position followed by Mahish Nath of VKV Nirjuli in the state. Kr Marpong Kodak, student of Class IX selected for National level in Science Exhibition. The exhibition was based on, “Innovations for Sustainable Development”, which saw the participation of budding scientists from 26 different schools of the state.

NHPC Painting Competition

Payal T Latane, Class VIII of VKV Nirjuli stood third in the State level NHPC Painting Competition in Group B conducted on 14th November. In addition, the following students from VKV received Consolation Prize:

Participation @ Science Connect Quiz Competition –Zonal Level

Kr Nguli Lombi, VKV Itanagar, Kr Arnab Bhattacharjee of VKV Vivek Vihar and Km Purva Pusti of VKV Tawang represented Arunachal Pradesh in the zonal level Science Connect Quiz Competition organized by Vigyan Prasar held from 15 to 16 November at ASTEC Guwahati. All the eight North Eastern States participated in the quiz.

Vivek Inspire Workshop for Batch I

A workshop for the Vivek Inspire batch I was conducted from 4th to 9th October in VKV Nirjuli and Roing. Students were given intensive coaching to nurture the giftedness.

[email protected] National Green Tribunal Conference

5 students of VKV Itanagar along with their escort teacher attended 2 days conference of NGT at Guwahati on 9th and 10th Sept’2017.The Chief Minister and the Forest Minister of Assam inaugurated the programme. The Supreme Court Judge Sri Adarsh Kumar Goel and other judges of Kolkata High Court, Sikkim High Court and many other judicial dignitaries of difference high court of India graced the conference and delivered lectures on topics like- Reuse of tree, waste water and resource recovery. Integrated and sustainable solid and liquid resource management, segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste, Bio conversion of wastes to manure through vermin composing to make wastes into wealth etc.Kr. Ayush Deb of Class VIII received 1st prize for poster making, Km. Rosemoyee Bhuyan Class IX received 2nd rank in painting, Km. Preety Hazarika Cl-VIII received 4th rank in Essay competition and Km. Mache Beyong, Class XI (Sc.) also received 4th and 5th rank respectively in Essay competition and painting competition. Smt. Anita Subramanian accompanied the students as an escort. The Arunachal pollution control board sponsored the programme for the students.

Career Guidance Program

VKV, Neepco Yazali conducted a career guidance programme for the students of Class X,XI,XII on 14 October. Shri Gajendra Dev Singh, Manager (SBI, Yazali) was the main Resource person for the program.

NSS Activities

Sri L D Singh, NSS Program officer of VKV Roing participated in a training program on ‘Youth and Peace Building’  organized by RGNIYD training officers at NIRD & PR-NERC-Guwahati from 19th to 23rd September. There were altogether 25 Program officers from all the North Eastern states. VKV Itanagar organized an orientation program on 26 October for Classes IX to XII.  Brahmakumar Raju from BrahmaKumari Viswa Vidaylaya, Headquarter Rajasthan was the main Resource person of the program.

State Level Bhagawad Gita Chanting Competition

The state level Inter VKV Bhagawad Gita Chanting Competition was conducted at VKVAPT Dibrugarh on 30th November.  The 17th chapter of Bhagawad Gita was selected for competition this year.  The competition held in school and cluster level culminated at the state level competition.  Activities of Atal Tinkering Lab

The Atal Tinkering Labs in VKV Jairampur and Kuporijo have been made operational and selected students have been undergoing intensive training.  It is a great pleasure that three Projects of Atal Tinkering Labs of VKV Jairampur and VKV Kuporijo notched prestigious positions among the top 100 projects selected for the national level ‘Tinkering Marathon’ organized by Atal Innovation Mission.  The details of the same has been given below:

Talent Shows at VKVs

A large gathering of parents, well-wishers and other dignitaries were enthralled by the performances of 450 students in 27 items in the ‘Mega Talent Show’ at VKV Nirjuli organized on 25th November. Sri Tapi Gao, Director, Elementary Education, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. VKV Jirdin also organized a talent show for the primary students with manifold programs involving all the students of primary section.

School Level Science Exhibition

Many schools conducted School level Science exhibitions which were witnessed by large number of parents and well-wishers. There were altogether 166 exhibits at VKV Roing, 106 models at VKV Itanagar, 87 models at VKV Banderdewa.

Primary Teachers Workshop at VKV Itanagar

A five days’ workshop for the teachers of primary sections of VKV Itanagar and Vivek Vihar was conducted at VKV Itanagar from 31st October to 4th November 2017. Sri Arvind Gore, an educationist from Pune was the Resource person of the same.  During the workshop, Sri Goreji demonstrated many new teaching techniques and shared his own experience. He urged the teachers to consider every student potentially gifted and teach them with concern so that their natural talent get manifested. All the teachers participated actively in all the activities.

Class X Class Teachers Workshop

In order to review the status of preparation of different VKVs in respect to the new scheme of evaluation introduced by CBSE, two class teachers Workshops were held on 7th and 11th November at VKV Itanagar and VKV Roing respectively. Class teachers from 15 VKVs participated in the Workshops. The Workshop at VKV Itanagar was graced by Sri Arvind Gore, an experienced teacher trainer from Pune. The academic performances of the Class X students were presented by the Class teachers. Detail strategies were planned to train the students to ensure good scoring. A chapter wise revision plan culminated with CBSE Final exam mock Test has been finalized with the class teacher.  The cluster- in- charges of other VKVs are going to appraise the Class teachers of respective VKVs about the same.  

The ensuing months are going to see more intensive academic activities for the deepening of understanding of the concepts. At the same time, let us assimilate the positive energy created during the forty years of celebration and go ahead with undaunted faith and spirit.

President acknowledges VKVs contribution

ITANAGAR, Nov 19: President of India, Ram Nath Kovind has praised the Vivekananda Kendra for commendable work in Arunachal Pradesh in the field of education. The President noted that the Vivekananda Kendra schools are a happy synthesis of traditional knowledge and values and of modern science and technology.
He was addressing the valedictory function of the completion of 40 years of the Vivekananda Kendra in Arunachal on Sunday.
Commending the services of the VKV with its motto of service to man is service to god towards promotion of quality education in the country in general and state in particular despite challenges, Kovind emphasized on maintaining its quality of education to bring about progress in the society.
The president further said that since 2001, the improved communication services in Arunachal Pradesh have changed the state’s development scenario.
The President observed that Arunachal was getting a face lift with the execution of the Trans-Arunachal Highway, road connectivity to remote interior areas, besides construction of advanced landing grounds at Pasighat, Mechukha, Ziro, Tuting and Walong, to facilitate connectivity to people living in remote areas.
Mentioning that the introduction of railway services from Itanagar to cities like Guwahati and construction of 500-bedded hospital cum Medical College at Naharlagun shows accelerated development in the state, he said that due to its huge hydro power potentials, Arunachal Pradesh can become the power house of the nation.
In his address, Arunachal Pradesh Governor Dr B D Mishra commended the Vivekananda Kendra’s mission of selfless service to society in the state in the fields of education and cleanliness, particularly in difficult areas, like Changlang, Tirap and Longding.
The Governor further stated that the presence of the President in the frontier and strategic state reinforces the sense of oneness and belongingness amongst the people of the state.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Pema Khandu also praised the services of the Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya in bringing educational revolution in the state through holistic approach, adding that besides working towards academic excellence, the institutions inculcate sense of nationalism and patriotism among the students.
Divulging on the initiatives of his government, Pema said that the state government is giving special emphasis on promotion of quality education in the state and informed that Arunachal Pradesh is the first small state in the country to have started smart class in schools to provide access to latest technology.
The state has been conferred with the ‘Best Performing State Award’ in Education sector under small state category by India Today Group recently in recognition to the efforts being made by the state government in the field of education, the CM said while mentioning on the decision to set up Skill Development University under PPP.
Earlier, Vice President Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari Balakrishnan thanked the state government for extending financial assistance of Rs 40 crore released in one single instalment for extending services of the VKV in the state.
Highlighting the activities of the Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, he informed that the day also commemorates the 103rd birth anniversary of founder Eknathji and significance of the year on being the 150th birth anniversary of Sister Nivedita.
He further said that since its first establishment in the state in 1977, VKVs have produced many luminaries, technocrats and bureaucrats and other professionals in Arunachal Pradesh, adding that presently there are 36 VKV schools across the state.
Union Mos Home Kiren Rijiju, DCM Chowna Mein, Speaker T N Thongdok, Parliamentary Secretaries, Chairmen, legislators, senior government officers and officials, led by Chief Secretary Satya Gopal, besides around two thousands alumni, teachers, parents and students from all over the state attended the programme. Cluster Level Principal Meets

Cluster level Principal meets were conducted in all the six clusters namely Tirap, Lohit, Kameng, Papum Pare, Siang and Subansiri during the month of July. Principals and Cluster- In-charges from the respective Clusters were present in the meetings. Sri P M Unnikrishnan, Education Officer was present in all the meetings. Smt Pratibha Kulkarni was present in VKV Kharsang venue and VKV Ziro venue. Sri R Krishna Kumar was present in VKV Kharsang venue. The meetings reviewed the activities conducted so far and the planning of respective schools. All the Principals shared good practices of the schools so that other schools also can adopt new practices. Action taken report of various previous meetings and visits of Kendra elders were discussed. Other details like staff position, reporting on the ongoing construction works, academic target setting, new evaluation pattern, monitoring strategies etc. were also discussed.

Annual Principal Meet

The Annual Principal Meet for the current session was convened from 21 to 23 July at VKVAPT, Dibrugarh. The meeting had the gracious presence of Dr Joram Begiji & Dr TejumPaduji, Trustees, Mananeeya Bhanudasji, General Secretary, VK Kanyakumari, Mananeeya Pravinji, Joint General Secretary, VK Kanyakumari and Secretary VKVAPT and DrSristidharDuttaji, a noted educationist and Administrative Committee member, VKVAPT.  All the Principals and the VKVAPT officials were present in the meeting.There were deliberations from Dr Tejum Padujiat the very beginning of the Meet and by Dr Joram Begiji at the concluding sessions on various aspects. Probodhan by Bhanuji on ‘Spiritual Development and Man making’ took everyone in a journey of spirituality and infused new vigor to carry on the punyakarya. Apart from these, there were discussion on new evaluation pattern, academic and activity calendar, Vivek Inspire, New Admission, Result analysis of various classes and Board examinations etc.

Trust Board Meeting

The Trust Board Meeting of VKVAPT was held in VKV Itanagar on 29th July. Trustees present were Dr. Joram Begiji, Shri. Jatan Paluji, Dr. Tejum Paduji, Shri. Bhanudasji, Shri Pravinji, Shri Rinchin Dorjeeji, Shri. Latsam Khimunji. Shri. Rupeshji, Joint Secretary and Smt Pratibha Kulkarni, Sri Arun Raj Singh Shekhawat also were present in the meeting. The meeting reviewed the activities conducted in the last session and passed the financial budget for the session 2017-18. In addition there were other decisions relating to Vivekananda Kendra College of Teacher Education (VKCTE) etc.

Computer Teachers Workshop

In order to give a fillip to the computer education in VKVs, a computer teacher workshop was conducted from 4th to 6th August. 17 teachers from 16 VKVs participated in the Workshop. Smt. Sunli Bhatia from Rachan Sagar publication was the main Resource person of the workshop. At the formal inauguration program, Sri P.M Unnikrishnan, Education Officer, VKVs highlighted the importance of computer education in the schools. The Resource persons took various sessions on the newly introduced books. All the teachers did practical with full participation. Sri Arun Raj Singh Shekhawat, Administrative Officer, VKVAPT addressed the participants at the concluding function. Sri Hardik Mehtajiand Sri Prem Rajan, VKVAPT ensured the smooth conduct of the Workshop with an ideal daily routine.

Inauguration of Computer Lab and Digital [email protected] VKV Dollungmukh

VKV Dollungmukh has been bedecked with a Computer Laboratory and five digital classrooms. The same was inaugurated on EknathjiPunyatithi Day, 22nd August by Sri. Rakesh,the Executive Director of Subansiri Lower Hydro Electric Project of NHPC at Gerukamukh in the presence of the officers of  the project, the students and staff of the Vidyalaya. The labs will cater to the need of the budding school.

Visit of Well Wishers

Smt Rama Didi, a well-wisher of Vivekananda Kendra visited VKVs Liromoba, Oyan, Yingkiong, Jirdin, Jairampur and had interaction with the students and the staffs during the month of July. Dr Minakshi Barve, a noted educationist,visited Lohit and Tirap Cluster schools and KGBV Barap from 15th June to 12th August. She observed the classes of teachers, scrutinized the lesson plans, checked the notebooks of students and provided valuable suggestions. On the whole, she conducted 29 classes for teachers and observed 85 classes. Dr Vasant Barve, an IITian and a retired professor visited VKV Roing and guided the teachers and the students of the school as well as neighboring schools. He motivated the staffs and the students to raise technology enabled teaching and learning platform.

Activities related to Vivek Inspire

Vivek Inspire Selection Test

The Vivek Inspire Project, which aims to nurture the gifted children through tailor-made program, is in its third year. The program is a collaboration of VKVAPT and Jnana Prabodhini, Pune. In order to select new batch of students for the program, a selection Test was conducted on 8th July in selected schools. The selected students are inducted in the program and receive all the training.

The Workshops have introduced many new topicsfor the participants in addition to the GMAT practice sessions. Activities like Diary Writing, Star gazing, insect collection Project, paitings, traditional games, outdoor activities were conducted. Movies like ‘Inside Out’, ‘Makade’etc. were screened which were both entertaining and educational.

Hosting of District level program at VKV Wessang

VKV Wessang hosted the launching program of Smart Class for the first time in the district of East Kameng. Sri Kata Rangmoji, DDSE Seppa while inaugurating the program emphasized on the various advantages of Smart Classrooms and shared his views about the changes to be brought by Smart Classes. Sri Gauranga Das and Sri ApurvaRanjanLenka, teachers of VKV Wessang who co -ordinated the program attended a training program for the same in BRC, Seppa. Now VKV Wessang has been equipped with a Smart classroom to provide digitalized instruction to the students.

Local Festival Celebrated

The local festivals of the respective locality in which the VKV is situated is celebrated with lot of enthusiasm in which the students get an opportunity to inculcate in their own tradition and culture. In addition to the school level programs, students and staffs participate in community based program. In the month of July, Dree festival is celebrated by the Apatanis. VKVs Vivek Vihar, Ziro, Itanagar, Balijan celebrated Dree festival in the school.

Celebrations

The celebrations during the month of August namely Independence Day, RakshaBandhan, Krishna Janmastami and Ganesh Chathurthi have brought new vigor to the schools and offered opportunity to connect to the community. The students and the staffs did early preparing for the celebration. For the Independence Day program, band parties and March past teams were given practice well ahead time. Program on the day included Prabhatphery, flag hoisting, March past with band in public programs. On the Raksha Bandhan Day, in addition to school level program, school students escorted by teachers visited nearby places and tied Rakhis to foster the spirit of brotherhood. Krishna Janmastami celebration included Radha Krishna Competition, Short Skits from the life of Sri Krishna, Krishna bhajan Competition, Matka breaking competition etc.  Students in groups sculpted the idol of Ganesh for the celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi.

Parents Meetings to appraise them about new uniform system of Assessment

Many VKVs conducted parent’s Meetings to appraise them about the new uniform system of assessment. With this attempt now, parents have been sensitized about the same.

Participation in State Level Competition during national reading month

Selected students of VKV Itanagar and VKV Vivek Vihar participated in the state level  Art Competition conducted by the Department of Public libraries, Govt of Arunachal Pradesh as a part of first everNational reading month from 18th June to 19th July. Vasundhara Buragohain of VKV Vivek Vihar and Rosemoyee Bhuyan of VKV Itanagar stood first and third respectively in the competition.

NSS Orientation Program

An orientation programme for NSS volunteers was held at VKV Itanagar on 4th August. Dr. A. Ibotompi, State Liaison Officer, NSS, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh inspired the students by elaborating the motto of NSS and gave a brief account of the activities to be undertaken like blood donation, cleanliness drives, construction of public facilities, awareness programme etc.Sri Uthaman VN, programme officer led the NSS pledge. Dr. Kakade Rajendra Chhagan, Principal of the Vidyalaya and Sri Patil Pankaj Balasaheb also spoke on the occasion. 250 students and 10 teachers attended the programme.

Visit of Youths from Chinmaya Mission

20 youths from Chinmaya Mission led by Swami Mitranandaji halted at VKV Shergaon while on their way to Tawang on 12 August. Br AnandaChaitanya stayed in the campus from 15th to 19th August 2017. During his stay, Swami took classes for students and teachers of VKV as well as students and teachers of neighboring schools. The stay of Br Ananda Chaitanya in the school proved to be beneficial for all and created a positive vibe in and around.

Being in the first year of new evaluation pattern introduced by CBSE, all the schools are involved intensely in academic to assimilate the same to the system. At the same time, the schools are also getting ready and chalking out plans to celebrate the 40 years’ service of VKVs in Arunachal Pradesh and the 150th Birth Anniversary of Sister Nivedita.
